Onix & Nala

Meet Onix and Nala — a gorgeous pair of pastel portraits that I’ve finally been able to share now they’ve been gifted! These two were commissioned as a surprise, which always adds a bit of pressure, not just because they’re a secret, but because I can’t show any of the behind-the-scenes process on social media until they’re safely in the hands of their new owners. And let’s be honest — a lot of my commissions come from people watching the journey unfold, so keeping it under wraps is always a bit of a test of patience!

When the portraits were unwrapped, the client sent me a video of her husband’s reaction — and it properly made my day. He genuinely thought she’d had two photos framed. It wasn’t until she told him they were pastel paintings that he clocked they were actually drawn by hand. That kind of reaction never gets old. It’s an absolute compliment, of course, but I always say: I’m not just trying to copy a photo — I’m trying to capture something deeper. The soul of the animal. Their presence. That little spark that makes them them.

Her feedback really confirmed that I’d done just that — not just a likeness, but something that felt alive and personal. That’s always the goal with every portrait I create, and being part of that surprise moment is honestly such a privilege.

Kelly & Broidie

This pair of portraits was a private commission of two gorgeous dogs, Kelly and Broidie. Because it was a surprise gift, I had to keep the whole process under wraps—no sneak peeks, no progress shots, nothing! It made the reveal all the more special though, and I was really excited for the client to finally see them.

They’d asked for two separate pieces rather than one with both dogs together, which gave me a bit of creative freedom to play around with the composition. I went for a soft, bokeh-style background—something a little different for me—that gave each portrait its own space while still making them feel connected. The backgrounds are designed to look like they’re both in the same gentle, out-of-focus green setting, and I think it ties them together beautifully.

I’m honestly so chuffed with how these turned out. It’s always a joy when you get to experiment a little and it clicks. And being able to contribute to such a thoughtful and personal gift? That’s a real privilege.

Star

This portrait of Star was such a special piece to create. Star was deeply loved and had been a huge part of her owner’s life. When she sadly passed away last year, it left a big hole in her heart. I was commissioned by her sister to capture Star’s spirit on paper, and I knew straight away this one would be an emotional journey.

When the finished piece arrived in the UK, I got a message from her sister saying she was in absolute floods of tears. That kind of reaction really stops you in your tracks. It’s a powerful reminder that this isn’t just about drawing pets—it’s about memories, connection, and helping someone hold onto a bit of what they’ve lost.

There’s something incredibly humbling about creating work that people bond with on such a deep level. Knowing that Star’s portrait will now live on in her owner’s home, bringing comfort for years to come, honestly means the world. It’s moments like this that make me so grateful to do what I do.

Billy

Tan Podenco - Spain, America, Canada, Australia

Billy was a character through and through. A rescued podenco, he found love and safety with our friends who run a local rescue here in Spain, and after his passing, they commissioned this portrait as a tribute to their much-loved boy.

I have plenty of memories of Billy—mostly of him barking relentlessly at me! But the moment I managed to get close enough to touch him, everything changed. He’d instantly relax, leaning into the strokes as if we’d been best friends all along. That was Billy—full of energy, full of personality, and full of love for those who took the time to understand him.

This portrait was an honour to create, capturing not just his likeness but the spirit of the dog who made such a lasting impression. He was funny, unique, and deeply loved—and now, forever remembered.

Rosie

Big fluffy dog - Spain, America, Canada, Australia

Rosie’s portrait was a truly special commission, created for a wonderful lady in the UK who wanted a lasting tribute to her beautiful girl. Losing a beloved pet is never easy, and she wanted something that would capture Rosie’s spirit and keep her memory alive.

This commission carried extra meaning for me as well. At the time, I had no completed pastel works to show, yet she put her trust in me. We talked, shared stories about Rosie, and she had faith in my ability to do her girl justice. That trust meant the world, and seeing her reaction to the finished piece—overjoyed and emotional—made it all the more rewarding.

Rosie’s portrait is more than just an artwork; it’s a celebration of a life well-loved and a bond that will never fade.

Millie

Jack Russell Pastel Pet Portrait - America, Canada, Australia, Spain, UK

This portrait is a deeply personal one, capturing our beloved Millie, who was with us for 16 wonderful years. From the moment we brought her home as a tiny rescue puppy, born in a shelter in the UK, she became an unshakable part of our lives. Millie moved with us through four houses and two countries, always adapting, always by our side.

In her younger years, she was full of mischief—always up to something, always keeping us on our toes. But as the years passed, she settled into a calmer soul, a wise old girl who ruled the house with quiet grace. Losing her in December 2024 left a huge space in our home and in our hearts, and this portrait is a way of keeping her spirit close.

Every stroke of pastel in this piece carries love, memory, and gratitude for the years we had with her. Millie wasn’t just a pet—she was family, and she always will be.
